Good quality 35 mm compact zoom FILM camera (NOT APS) .?
I have trawled EBAY and bought at auction two cameras which are totally unsuitable as they have turned out to be APS. I am in the process of disputing the purchases. Why is it that AMAZON can give an honest specification of these cameras and EBAY cannot. Amazon detail specs that include the words APS for both of these cameras. I think that APS is dead as a dodo with only b&w film available (if you can locate it). Why then are supposidely reputable firms allowed to peddle OOD equipment.
Why do you need a 35mm compact? It's bloody hard to find them since nobody really wants modern 35mm compacts (besides they were at best going to last 10 years with that cheap plasticky nonsense) so they get binned most of the time.
If you want a relatively compact 35mm camera you are probably better off looking at rangefinders, trouble is they usually only come with prime lenses, unless you want to fork out for a hideously expensive Leitz Vario Elmar. Since the rangefinder route isn't an option, you're best bet is 35mm SLR.
You can get a 35mm AF SLR with AF lens for around £40 or £50 off ebay and in usually in good nick. I got a Canon EOS 600 with EF35-105mm f3.5-4.5 lens with Hoya Skylight and Circular polarisers (the filters alone are worth the price of the whole lot) for £40. The lens will be miles better than any 35mm compact and you'll get 5fps out of it...though the 600 did need a flashgun, though many of the later EOS bodies don't. Plus if you use a 50mm f1.8 with ISO800 film you'll be fine without a flash.
