Camcorder Power Cord

How come my PC can't detect my camcorder?
I have a Sony Handycam DCR-HC52 And it doesn't seem to be detected on my PC. I am running XP Essential which is basically a Windows professional With S2. I bought a Firewire card and it seems to be properly installed since my computer detected it and i got the drivers for it as well. Also when i connect my camcorder to the firewire using the firewire cable, it says DVin So i guess it's working. I checked online and it says that it works when you run Windows Movie maker. I did that and it doesn't pick it up. I also tried used Sony vegas pro 8 capture system and that doesn't pick it up either. I read online that instead of using the battery to use power cord and it should work. Well i did that and still have the same results. Can someone help me =) ?
You did not tell us which firewire card (I hope not a Dynex) you installed.
You did not tell us if the camcorder is in "Play/Edit" mode (it needs to be).
Yes, using the AC power adapter is a good idea - you really don't want the import process to fail because you ran out of battery power. Some camcorders require the AC to be plugged in, but I do not believe the HC52 is one of them.
You did not tell us what you did when you went into MovieMaker and Vegas. In MovieMaker you "Capture" and in Vegas you import.
I have seen WinDV work to import video where other applications have failed...
