DSLR camera- Auto focus stopped working!?
I'm in the photography program and I know I am not supposed to use autofocus anyways (I dont) but just for quick photos I usually do. For example, I took it outside in the winter (I'm in Ottawa) for the ice sculptures, and used it then, but ever since, it hasn't been working! People in my program had the same problem and they just twist & reattatch their lens, which seems to work for them. But it doesn't work for me.
Did the cold really eff it up? Actually the other day when I took my iPod outside with me, it died for good. I heard about Ottawa's brutal winters, but I didn't know it could ruin digital equipment....
Anyone know how I can get the auto focus to work again? Maybe I pressed a wrong button somewhere along the line?
It's a Nikon D80
Bringing the camera from outside, which is pretty cold where you are, to a warmer place, inside, it will surely cause condensation, and .. may short out a thing or two, on the circuit board, inside your camera.
You did not state what brand and model of your camera (and lens). That may have been a little helpful. Is your lens in A (auto) mode? or M (manual) mode?
Have you also tired to not just turn it off and then on again--but to remove the batter(ies) and wait a few seconds, and do a "cold start" (I had to be funny there)--i.e. hard reset, of the camera? It's mentioned earlier that you can do a hard reset via menu, too. I have done it with mine once.
