How to use flash on a 35mm manual camera, help fast?
Okay, so I have Pentax k1000 and use it for photo class. I've never really used flash before. My regular flash isn't working, so I'm using an autostronobar, which is the one with the white covering. So, my question is, what f-stop do I use, shutter speed is 60 right? Thanks!!
Yes, flash sync is 1/60th. I did a search for autostronobar and I got nothing ... rare these days in the web search department. Did you spell it right? Is it an old flash?
The white covering you mention may be a diffuser and it will soften the harsh shadows that are usually cast when using a camera mounted flash.
Just find the guide number of the flash and use the standard rules for determining exposures at various distances and f/stops and you should be fine. If your flash is an auto-flash, you will find life using flash much easier.
That said, try using "available light" and some high-speed film. You may find your images appear much more interesting.
If you ever get a Pentax DSLR, the link below may help you if you start looking for another used flash for it. DSLR cameras cannot handle the high trigger voltages that were popular before digital cameras arrived on the scene.
