Camera Repair Part

How much would it cost to repair a digital camera that got dropped?
I dropped my digital camera on hard floor. It just slipped right out of my hand and the top part got cracked and I found the two small pieces that popped out as well...it was like a springy thing and then a very small metal piece. At first I couldn't even get the batteries to come out. I had tried to turn it on and it wouldn't turn on. I finally did get the batteries out though and when I did they were hot! Why would they be hot for? Also how much does it usually cost to repair a digital camera? The camera was only like a hundred dollars or so so not like it was a real expensive digital camera, but I am still mad at myself for dropping it!
First, I willl give you my standard lecture: Always secure your camera with a shoulder or a wrist strap. Cameras are delicate electronics and need to be handled as carefully as possible, all the time.
Without knowing the age, model and damage details, I have to generalize.
Now, about the repair. I feel it will exceed the current value of your camera, and there is a chance you could have it fixed and still have future problems. But call the manufacturer, and/or contact where you purchased the camera and ask them for an opinion. Check the guarantee terms and conditions that you got with the camera.
Digitals keep improving and get better features with each new model. You can buy a highly sophisticated digital camera for under $200. and even a $100 camera bought today would be quite a bit more advanced than a 2-3 year model.
Look at a replacement instead of a repair, unless it is a very inexpensive repair.
Don't throw away the damaged camera. Give it to a person who likes to play with"toys". Or sell it for parts by advertising at a low price, like $5 to $10.
And don't forget, be careful with your new camera, and use a shoulder or wrist strap
Johnny.
