What Camcorder is better Panasonic DVD Palmcorder® Camcorder or canon ZR 900?
I got the canon ZR 900 for Christmas. It cost 250 plus tax. I kinda want a digital camera though. I found the panasonic for 179, which would give me cash for a digital camera. Which is better? I want it to hook to my laptop and make videos/movies. What do you think?
Your ZR 900 can record digital stills. It has smooth zoom, image stabilizer, jack for external microphone, and the 41x optical zoom is amazing. It records video to MiniDV.
The Panasonic DVD Palmcorder VDR-M53 records to DVD, which I think is the absolute worst media if you want to edit movies on your PC. The straight to DVD option is for people who don't understand computers and just want to watch their kid's birthday party on the TV in the living room. This camcorder also can take digital stills. It has only 24x optical zoom. The zoom speed control feature sounds cool, but again is more useful for straight to DVD as you still have better control in post-production.
You should stick with the Canon ZR 900 if you want to focus on making movies and editing them on your PC. You'll find it much nicer than working with a straight to DVD camcorder with less features.
You can save for an inexpensive small digital still camera later. You could get a digital still camera around the $70 to $100 range and touch up the images on your PC instead of spending hundreds of dollars on a nicer digital still camera.
