I have a Canon Digtal DLR D400 and I was wondering if anyone knows whether a Canon Zoom Lens EF 70-210mm fits?
Yes.
Any canon branded EF or EF-s lens shall fit.
Although 3rd party lenses made by tamron and Sigma in the canon EF mount will physically mount, some older lenses do not communicate with the camera body.
The lens you mention will be subject to a 1.6x focal length conversion to 110mm to approx 340mm, giving you more tele.
If its the old one touch lens (constant f4) it's a pretty old lens, dating to 1987 and stopped in 1991 so just check there isn't any mould or anything and that the essential functions work.
These lenses were very well made but getting parts in the event of a service being required may be difficult. The one touch mechanism was prone to zoom creep as well.
Just watch for 'ghositing' at 210mm, as the lens was made well before canon coated their lenses at the rear element for digtial use.
So all in all, if you already have it, great, health to use it, just heed my hints. If you are thinking of picking up a used bargain.... well, it wouldn't be me, it's not a bad lens, just given the choice I would put the money towards something more of the digital era.
Canons 55-200 EF lens is nowhere near as nicely made, but is better optically, faster to focus (USM) and covers a more useful range.
The newer 55-250 EFs lens has a better external design and a built in image stabiiser. It may limit your options in the future though as it will not fit canons full frame seres of digital cameras.
