I need a good lens for a Nikon D40?
I love photography! I have a great point and shoot camera, but I want more. I hope to take a photography class in the very near future. In the mean time, I found a Nikon D40 on Craigslist that includes: Strap, USB Cord, Charger, Video Cable, Battery, Cap, 1 OEM Battery and 1 Adorama Off-brand Battery for a total of 3 batteries, and tripod. The camera is like new and was just used for a photography class. The whole bundle is $300. I does not come with any Lens. How much is a starter Lens? Is this a good deal? What Lens should I get? Is this even a good camera? THANK YOU!!!!!
1) How much is a starter lens?
--If you're willing to buy used off eBay, you can acquire an 18-55mm AF-S lens for around $70, usually in brand-new or near brand-new condition. What happens is when people upgrade, they sell their old lens at a low price. A great second lens is the 55-200mm VR lens.
2) Is this a good deal?
--I would say it's above average, since you get 3 batteries. A new camera with 1 battery and lens would be $500. The tripod is likely to be not too good. Essentially, it's like getting a $150 discount.
3) What lens should you get?
--Get the classic entry lens, the 18-55mm AF-S. An affordable second lens is the 55-200mm VR lens. After that, additional lenses will depend upon your needs and budget.
4) Is this even a good camera?
--It's an excellent camera and will definitely work in your photography class.
