Card Bouncer Flash
Are prison officers allowed to flash their warrant cards about in public?

Not sure about the rules on this. I know policemen don't unless it's necessary. I've seen a prison officer flashing his warrant card at EVERY opportunity. Buying a camcorder from Currys "it had better be ligit" he says flashing his card. On a night out he flashes it at the bouncers and anyone he thinks might be interested. Seems both dodgy and dangerous to me.

Your thoughts please and I would be grateful of some official answers too from police officers or similar. I'm in the UK
I am a criminology undergraduate and wanted to know that's all. I don't have a problem with it personally but I just think after 5 years of this man being a prison officer he should have more sense than to show his card to anyone and everyone because he has no idea who might be watching him. It just doesn't seem sensible to me and I wondered how legal it was.

I'm not sure in the U.K. , but in the U.S. the department of corrections does frown on that. First off, being a correctional guard (in certain states) does not mean that they are police officers. Most guards will do this to either flex their "muscle" or show authority. What they fail to realize is they only have real authority over inmates at their correctional facility.
