Charger Battery Panasonic

Do I need a new battery or a new battery charger?
The battery ran out on my camera (Panasonic DMC-ZS1) so I put it on the charger and plugged it into an electrical outlet. A green light came on and I left the camera there for a few hours. When I returned, the green light was still on. I put the camera battery back into my camera and turned my camera on, only to find that the error message saying that the camera did not have any battery power available appeared.
Facts:
I bought the camera last year in either March or April 2010.
The battery I'm currently using is the original battery.
I lost my initial battery charger and replaced it in November 2010.
Usually the battery charger charges the battery in about two hours, if not less time.
This is the first time I have had trouble with the battery/battery charger.
My question is: what's wrong? Is it the battery or the battery charger, or worse yet (though seriously doubtful)- the camera?
Thank you!!
If there's no contaminant on the battery posts (silver contact points) on the battery or the charger which would interfere with the charging, then it could be either the battery or the charger. The best thing to do is buy another battery since you can always use an extra anyway. If the new battery won't charge, then it's the charger which may still be under warranty.
