Best way to keep lens cap clean...lens keeper? put it in your pocket? other suggestions?
I have had my SLR camera (Nikon D3000) for over a week now, and I would like to know what you think is the best way to keep the lens clean. When I have been using my camera I have been puting the lens cap face up, on a table. Other times when I don't have a better place to put it I keep it in my pocket. Which one of these options is the best? Maybe getting a lens cap keeper is a better option, but doesn't it get dirty by keeping the lens cap hanging near the part where you have to twist and change the zoom (sorry I know it's called a lens, but I don't know what the name for the actual thing you twist is called)? Don't worry, I do follow some guidelines like avoiding changing lenses too often, not touching the lens, and keeping the camera away from the carpet and other dusty areas. Also, I am looking into a lens cleaning kit, one that's relatively cheap, but will do its job well. What would you recommend?
Keeping lenses clean is an ongoing problem for a photographer. First thing you need to do is get yourself a lens cleaning kit, something with some liquid cleaner, a little cloth, pads of paper - disposable wipes basically and very useful, and a little hand blower. Places like this are available almost anywhere that sells cameras and aren't very pricey. I wouldn't worry about the lens cap too much. If it gets dirt/dust on it, the blower will probably remove it very quickly. Its the glass itself you should be careful about.
