Cleaning Pen Canon

Just dug up some old lenses after not having checked in almost two years?
I haven't checked my drybox in almost two years and when i opened it today, i found one of my lenses had fungus growing on one of the inside elements and on some others the growth was limited to the front which i was able to clean with my lens pen. Anyway, i've sent two of my ef lenses to canon to see if they can still be cleaned and salvaged but i've also noticed on all of them the manual focusing ring is all sticky and leaves marks on your hands when you touch it. Is there any way I can clean this myself without ruining it. For now i've left it alone since i don't know if it's just the coating of the MF ring or the actual rubber/plastic ring itself that's making it all sticky to the touch.
Also, i've noticed on the bottom of my Nikon FM and Eos 30 bodies some hardened white stuff sort of looks like salt but requires some force to remove. Is this some type of fungus growth? Should i have it checked as well?
canon charges 60usd to change each manual focusing ring.
Your 'drybox' ain't dry, dark, warm and humid conditions is the worst place to keep camera gear.
The fungi on the lens will probably have killed the lens completely, it secretes an acid that dissolves glass, the lenses would have to be reground and polished or replaced, quite expensive.
The 'sticky' focus ring is the rubber perishing usually due to heat, they can be replaced.
The 'white stuff' on your Nilon FM is aluminium oxide, and is formed under the same conditions as ruined your lenses (the Aluminium combining with Oxygen). It can't be reformed and the effected plates will need replacing, though the camera will probably work when the 'white stuff' is abraded off, albeit with 'scars', this will also have happened on any aluminium inside the camera so a service is called for.
The best place to store photographic gear is on a sunny open shelf, the circulating air stops most of these problems and the UV in the sunlight kills the fungi spores.
