Nikon d40 hot pixel.. or what ever you call it.. what should i do ?
Well i just recently bought my nikon d40 well im getting pictures with red dots.. and occasionally redlines.. i only had the camera for about 2 days so i dont know what to do.. should i contact nikon.. it is cover by nikon one year warranty.. or can i fix it myself.. plz help me thanks
Can you upload an image or a 100% crop (cut out from image without reduction) of some of those pixels and lines?
Sometimes it's not what you think, but to be able to tell, we need to see...
In any case, here are a few things to note, in order to identify if you have a hot pixel issue:
1. One way to tell a hot pixel from other artifacts - it should always be in the same exact spot on any picture you take, except where it blends in with the scenery.
2. Hot pixels usually have a small "aura" around them. This is because if a single sensor on matrix is malfunctioning, it is used in the Bayer Matrix to determine the color values of several pixels adjacent to it, making them get off color too!
3. It is usually a single well pronounced pixel plus several around it. If there's a cluster of pixels that are off color, you may be dealing with either dirty lens, dirt on sensor or something else.
If after reading this and looking back at your images you still think there are dead pixels - then you may have a case to return the camera to the store for refund, or call Nikon for service...
