How much would it cost to repair a glass cover on a brake light?
Hi, I'm 16 and one of my tail light and brake lights glass coverings is broken on my Subaru car. I don't know how the glass was smashed, no other part of my car seems damaged, just that one glass casing. The lights that it covers both still work. How much would it cost to get that glass casing replaced? I don't know much about cars and I'm sorry about the lack of information, but any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much.
Those tail light lenses are shockingly expensive new, normally between $100 and $200, because the whole light assembly comes as one unit. Some searching on the internet will cut that about in half, maybe better. Wrecking yards are often better priced, but the first source, which pulls together the inventory of some but not all wrecking yards, lists tail lights for a 2000 Forester (for example) at about $90-$100. A pull-it-yourself yard would be cheaper but you would want to ask "how much" before searching the yard. Body parts can be frustrating to find because they change so often. The actual replacement is an easy DIY.
Car parts stores often carry crude but effective repair kits that put a red plastic film over the smashed part. The repair looks pretty red-neck but at least it keeps the tail and brake lights red, which is a legal requirement. Cheap, too.
