Dental students or Professionals, I need help with my radiographs!?
My mandibular periapicals have a slight crown cut off, I'm supposed to evaluate my own films for re-takes, and I don't know for sure if all I have to do is increase my vertical angle? Also, do you have any suggestions on how to take Maxillary anteriors with size two processing films. Is it better to use a stabe or snap-a -ray as a holder?
By the way we're using DXTRR (his name is marvin) and real skulls, obviously with no tissue, but they do have shallow palates which is why I'm having trouble with my anterior's because we don't have access to size 1 films.
Most schools teach a parallel radiographic technique using the XCP system. Any other system, especially a Snap-a Ray, will give a distorted picture. In my practice, I routinely use size 2 film for max anteriors but I use the XCP holder. It would be easier taking x-rays of the max centrals if you bend both corners of the film, and for the laterals and cuspids bend the corner that is closest to the front of the mouth or incisive papillae. Cutting the crown off on the film is not the result of an improper angle but of having the tubehead too low.
