Lighting for band photo shoot?
I'm doing a photo shoot for my brother's band in a couple of weeks, and I need help with lighting. I have only used natural light so far, and now I need to get into some more professional lighting. I have a Canon Rebel XS, and no lighting other than the on camera flash (which as most know is not that great.) What would be the best kind of lighting for me to purchase? I don't want to spend over 100$, and I want the lighting to work well in very dark to light situations. Also, how moronic would it be for me to bounce a shop light off of a normal umbrella, or cover it with a sort of diffuser?
Thanks so much for your help. ![]()
We are planning on a good bit of outdoor shots, as well as inside of a movie theater (if we get permission.) and possibly inside a fairly plain building. How well do softboxes work for portraits of multiple people?
You can pick up cheaper lights at home depot like this not professional but it works

This is the cheapest option I found for "professional lighting"

EDIT: So you have a softbox? It depends on the size of the softbox and the voltage you have for your light. It might since there are what? 4 people in the band. Don't have them too far apart though. Bring a big white cardboard or buy a reflector to help bounce some light where it's needed.
I suggest bringing as much lighting as you can (no more than 3 light sources) because if it's too much you can always take it away. You'll be kicking yourself and have to do a re-shoot it if you don't have enough light for the pictures.
