Could you provide me links for aquarium test kits?
I hv a 3 ft aquarium. It has a filter, a heater, and plants. However sometimes when my fish die, I can't tell why. Sometimes I just mix aquarium salts and anti bacterial and fungal medicines when they look sick. Aquarium test kits are not available where I live. The fish store keepers just give me a blank look when I ask for them. One of my friends is coming from USA, and I can get her to get me these kits. She says she is broke, and doesn't hv the time to go around aquarium shops. Could you provide me with links where I could buy affordable good test kits and maybe other essentials for my tank?
You can find them all over the Internet. One word of advice though. Do not buy a cheap, pet shop special. The solutions you use for some of the test, pH for example have a limited shelf life. You want to buy a commercial kit from some place that you know has a big turnover and fresh solutions. They can go bad as quick as 6 months, causing you to get completely false readings. In turn when you try to correct the problem, and end up wiping out the tank. Another point: always keep your solutions in the dark, as sunlight will screw them up also.
When I was in retail and wholesale, I ordered test kits and solutions through my local city water supply department. I didn't stock them in my shop as they were somewhat expensive and not a big seller. I special ordered as needed to assure good solutions. You might go talk to your city water department if you can't find them anywhere else.
