Why would my camera do this?
I was trying to take a picture of a flower, and my camera was trying to focus but the lens kept going back and forth, back and forth, and wouldnt stop to focus. Why would it do this, and how can I fix it?
My camera is a Canon XS and it is only 6 weeks old. I did have a UV filter and a circular polarizing filter on at the same time.
And I was using macro mode.
Just because you have the camera mode set to Macro, does not mean much. Unless you actually are using a macro lens, you are limited by the closest focus available on the lens you are using. Since most macro shots are pre-focused manually and then critically focused by moving the camera toward or away from the subject, auto-focus is not usually activated.
It is a good practice not to stack filters unless there is a specific reason (needing to shoot at s l o w shutter speeds and to do that you need two or three ND4 filters).
Unless you are shooting at 90 degrees to the suns arc and have sky in the background, using a polarizing filter is not going to do much for you, unless there are some reflections you are attempting to reduce.
The UV filter sitting on the front of your lens is fine when you are shooting things like sports where if you are hit on the sidelines, the lens shade can be smashed and something can bash the front element of your lens or shooting motocross events in the mud. I have to replace my lens shades about two to three times a year and my UV filters about very two years due to on the job accidents.
