How do you decide on what lens filter to use on a Nikon 55-200mm and a 18-55mm lens?
You need a UV filter for each lens to protect the front element. The only other filter you really need is a circular polarizer which you use to darken a blue sky and to remove/reduce glare/reflections from glass, water, snow, sand and painted metal - but not polished metal. Happily both lenses use a 52mm diameter filter so you'll only have to buy one polarizer.
Remember this: "A cheap filter isn't good and a good filter isn't cheap." So look for these brands: Heliopan, Tiffen, B+W, Hoya, Singh-Ray.
