does the polarizer filter work well with the canon xti kit lens (18-55mm)?
recently, i watched a video on youtube says that canon xti kit lens does not work so well with polarizer filter because when focusing, the lens head will rotate. i just want to know if that's true. and why the polarizer filter does not work well with the kit lens. thx!!!
yes, i'm a newbie. thx for ur answer. i've decided not to put a polarizer filter on my kit lens. but later when i get a better lens, i will definately get one.
Rotating a polarizing filter very dramatically changes the effect of the filter from almost nothing to very strong. In fact, polarizing filters are mounted in a rotating mount so that you can adjust them to gain the desired effect.
Having a rotating front filter thread, such as is on Canon's kit lens, does not preclude the lens from using a polarizing filter. The key to using, though, is going to be to first let the camera focus(or focus manually) and then rotate the filter to the desired effect between focusing and taking the shot.
This can get to be a bit tedious, however truthfully even when I use a polarizer on a non-rotating front filter thread lens, I tend to tweak its position from shot to shot anyway.
So, if you want to use a polarizer, go ahead, but just keep in mind when the apropriate time to adjust it is.
