Are wide angle lens and fisheye lens the same thing?
I'm working on getting a Canon Rebel, and it comes with a wide angle Lens, and i really want a fish-eye Lens too. But i've heard that they are the exact same thing, just different names. Is that true? If it's not, what is the difference?
please and thanks.
No, not even close
A fish-eye lens was designed to photograph the interiors of pipelines during inspections. By design, the image is a 180 degree view in front of the camera. Photographers have used them for special effects or just for fun, but I use mine about once a year. The lens cost me right around $1,000, but when I need it, I really need it and it has paid for itself over the years.
Wide angle lenses, even super wide angle lenses are designed to portray images with no image convergence ... vertical lines stay vertical with no pincushioning.
Canon does not make a fish-eye for any of its ASP-C sensored cameras. The only one that is close would be the Tokina 10-17 mm fish-eye zoom. It still does not give you a full 180 degree shot, but it does bend the world like a true fish-eye will.
