Flash Stand Nikon

Should I buy Nikon or Canon?
I'm getting into photography and I am really wanting a Canon Rebel. I thought I'd get some opinions though on which one guys prefer? Nikon or Canon? I have a Canon already and I liked it until the flash stopped working. The minimum repair cost to send it to Canon is $130! It seems crazy to pay that much to replace the flash. Do you own a Canon or Nikon and what are the pros and cons of them?
I would like to have professional quality pictures and also manual focus so the subject can stand out more than the background.
Thanks!
Well, both camera companies supply the pros with their cameras, so either brand is fine.
What you may want to do, is visit first both of the companies websites and get an idea of all the cameras, lenses and accessories available for each brand. Then with one or two from each company in mind, visit a camera store and see which one is the easiest for you to make common changes using the cameras array of buttons and their menus.
The most common changes you will be making while shooting (other than aperture and shutter speed) is White balance, EV, ISO and shooting modes.
At this time, the most bang for the buck is the Nikon D3100 and while this changes from time to time, you really need to pick the system you will be living with for the next few decades
