Using expired film?
I have 5 rolls of Ilford Pan-F 50 that I bought by accident a few years ago. I meant to order 35mm and ended up with 120 instead. Anyway, I've had it sitting around since then and I pretty much forgot about it. It's been stored at room temperature (I wish I'd thought to refrigerate it but I didn't.)
However, I'm now planning on purchasing a cheap plastic Holga medium format camera to play around with. I'm wondering if the old film I have will be usable at all? The package says Feb 2005, so it's been expired for quite some time. The thing is though, the whole point of using the Holga camera is because of the unique effect of the cheap lens and light leaks. I'm not looking for quality, just for an interesting image. What does it look like when you use expired film? Will it have a bad effect, or could it just add to the interest of the photo? I plan on trying at least one roll of the film no matter what, I'm just curious what to expect as far as results.
I'm a photographer, & I used a roll from about 2005 also. When I developed my images, they came out fogged & I got white spots. Maybe it was just that roll but if you use expired film, it could also ruin your camera.
It's all up to the photographer though. You said you wanted a "unique effect", so why not try a roll?
If not, it's best to just toss it.
hope that helps.
