What Brand Of Filters Are Good?
I Just Got My Nikon D80 With An 18-200MM VR Lens. I Am Looking At Getting A Few Filters For My Lens, Since It Is A 72mm Lens They Tend To Be Expensive So I Want To Get A Good Brand. I Am Looking To Get A UV, Or A Clear Filter And A Polarizer, Or A Circular Polarizer. My Questions Are Simply What Is The Difference Between A UV, And A Clear Filter? What Is The Diference Between A Polarizer, And A Circular Polarizer? Does The Type Of Polarizer Matter Since I Have A Lens With A Non-rotating End Section? Finally, What Brand Of Filter Is Best For What I'm Looking For From The List Below Corresponding To Price And Over All Quality? (If You Could Rank Them That Would Be Great!!)
-B+W
-Cannon
-HOYA
-Nikon
-Optex
-Panasonic
-Sigma
-Sony (Carl Zeiss)
-Tiffen
My preference in this order:
B&W
Hoya
Nikon
Buy UV filters for the lens itself then get a mount and step up rings for the rest. Buy the 4" square filters and all filters will fit on all lenses (saves $$ in the long run.)
Tiffen only if I can't get any of the above.
Forget the rest.
Buy the best, buy it once. Why would you put a cheap piece of glass in front of an expensive one (or worse Plastic?)
Have fun with your new camera.
