Kit Set Sony

Suggestions for a lens for Sony Alpha cameras to replace the 18-70mm kit lens?
Recently I was photographing a martial arts demonstration in a building lobby which was primarily lit by sunlight with my Sony A200. I had my shutter speed set for about 1/125. Unfortunately, the kit lens did not do a great job of capturing much of the action with the lens set for 18mm/3.5f @400 ISO. While some of the photos came out ok when I changed the levels in Photoshop, many of them were very noisy. Unfortunately, I didn't really have a chance to play around with my shutter or ISO settings prior to the demo.
What I'm wondering is if someone could recommend a faster lens to replace this 18-70mm F3.5-5.6 kit lens. Ideally, it would be a lens that won't cost an arm and a leg, but I've missed enough shots to make me feel justified in buying a better lens.
For what it's worth, I already have the Minolta Maxxum 70-210 f/4 and the Minolta Maxxum 35-70 f/4.
The Carl Zeiss "ZA" 16-35mm f2.8 should complement your two Maxxum lenses. It lists for $1,599.99 at B&H ( http://www.bhphotovideo.com ) after a $150.00 Instant Savings from B&H.
For what its worth, I own the older manual focus versions of the 35-70mm and 70-210mm zoom lenses and love them.
