Shooting objects 0.85 miles away with a 10X Zoom & 7.2 MP?
I have a Lumix DMC-TZ3 Camera (The Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ3 is the successor of the TZ1 features 8.5 million effective pixels, 10x optical zoom (35mm equivalent: 28-280mm LEICA DC VARIO-ELMAR with built-in Image Stabilizer (MEGA O.I.S), and a 2.5″ LCD Screen. The camera is measuring in at 105 x 59.2 x 36.7 mm (4.20 x 2.37 x 1.47 in), weighing 222g and it’s running on Li-ion battery.)
I'm trying to photo large objects (atleast 35m wide) away from my position by 0.85 miles, What are the best settings that would make the TZ3 give the best result on such a distance ? (Zoom/ISO/Aspect Ratio/Metering Mode) I'm still a newbie in photographing, So Thanks for your help.
The best setting is have your camera setting on a tripod.
Then, the shutter, speed aperture, ISO and zoom are all going to be dependent on the conditions. You will want to lean toward as fast of a shutter speed as you can manage to reduce the possibility of camera shake blurring the image. This can happen even though you have Image Stabilization. Also, how "fast" your lens is, will have a bearing on shutter speed, and aperture settings.
If it's a clear day, I'd try to start with about 100 ISO, f-5.6, and try to use 1/1000 shutter speed. Work your way from there.
You say that you are still a newbie. Well that is the beauty of something like this. It's an excellent opportunity to try different settings. Try different aperture settings with different speeds. Push it to the limits until you see the image going bad. That way you learn what works and what doesn't. Go with the intent of shooting anywhere from 100 to 200 shots.
