Lens Action Toy

Looking for a lens for Cannon XTi.?
I need a lens that is designed for action shots. I prefer it to be a cheaper lens, something that can capture gymnastics routines. I toyed with one a while back that was perfect. If actually gathered so much light that the movement was stopped like a perfect freeze frame. The hair from the gymnast was even visible in strands not a huge blur. If you can advice me on a lense, as well as explain to me what I am looking for and how it works too. Thank You.
Can you link me to any decent lenses for canon that have a apeture of around 1:2.8 and would be good for photos of flips and floor routines? I will at most be 10-15 yards from the subject.
Well you have a problem ...Cheaper lenses are usually slower lenses and you need a FAST lens.
Your best option is to find a good used Canon 200mm f/2.8 (200 x 1.6 = 320mm) or faster EF 135mm f/2L USM lens (135 x1.6 = 216mm) and then shoot using flash or at a higher ISO and not worry about the noise introduced when shooting a 1600 ISO. At this point your choice is to accept the noise or the camera movement.
