Camcorder Accessories Question?
I plan on buying a Canon VIXIA HF M30, and was wondering about accessories. So below are some questions regarding them.
- If I plan working out of doors during the day or in a lit studio environment, will a video light other than the built in one be needed?
- Can this camera support additional lenses? Or a lens hood? If so, when would the be needed?
- Is there any way to weigh this camera down? It falls under the 1 pound minimum for a Steadicam-type system I plan on using.
- Can any earbuds be used here to monitor audio?
- Can it support a larger and heavier battery to increase weight?

The built in light on the Canon HF M30 is for flash if needed for taking still images. But you can buy a add-on video light. Video lights are okay for subjects close to the cam, like within say 10 feet but they just are not powerful enough for lighting beyond that.
The camera has a 37mm lens filter thread so you could add an additional lens.
The Canon BP-827 Battery Pack is the biggest and with one of the Canon add-on lenses, it will surely add some weight.
You are better off using full earmuff headphones. That way you'll be able to hear the audio much better than with ear buds.
