what equipment to use for making large format prints of my art work?

The brand of camera doesn't matter much, it's just a light tight box with a sensor and a shutter mechanism inside it. There is one caveat to this, sensor technology is moving on apace at the moment, the new Sony sensor in the Pentax Kx or Kr has greater dynamic range and better low noise performance than Canon, which use 5 year old technology (several generations in sensor terms), less so for Nikon, but you have to buy the top of the range to get them, the Pentax Kx and Kr are entry level.
What do matter are lenses. For the absolute best IQ buy L series lenses or at least use primes (lenses with no zoom). All lenses have compromises in their design, primes have the fewest compromises, wide range zooms the most.
Lighting for copy work is easy you just need to cover the art work with flat lighting, by flat I mean that the same level of light falls evenly over the picture. Two light sources (flash or continuous) at 45° either side of the camera, preferably in soft-boxes works well. Watch colour balance with continuous lights.
How big do you want to print? Up to A3 is easy enough at home, larger than that demands much more investment and are probably better printed by a print house.
Epson printers have one huge advantage in that their cartridges are just reservoirs, so you can use 3rd party inks without sacrificing quality these days. You can safely go back several generations and still get superb prints, a now old R1800 will give just as good a print as the current models.
I get superb 5 foot X 4 foot prints from a 10Mp camera. The trick is to match the matrix the printer puts down (think graph paper) to the matrix in the picture file. The formula 1Meg of file size to 1 Inch of print size on the longest size ensures the minimum interpolation and matches prints made at 300dpi, the industry standard. So my 5 foot X 4 foot needs a 60Mb file. The only caveat is the print data has to be perfect, printing this big exaggerates any flaw.
