Lens Protector Hood

GL2 didn't come with a lens hood?
Or at least it's not listed as one of the accessories. How important is it to have a good lens hood? Is it worth spending a lot of money on one or will a cheap one work. Cause I cant get something like this:

and I imagine that they would serve me well.
Hi Vladamir:
As Ms. "Tech Support" already mentioned, it doesn't really matter whose lens hood you use, as long as it has the requisite 58mm diameter thread for your lens' front filter ring.
The hood shown in your first link (the $7.95 one) actually looks better-made than the $10.99 one, although the 2nd one has an included lens cap. The "flower" shape (also called a "crown" hood) is a popular one for shooting at the widest angle on your zoom (no vignetting or edge shadows from a full hood shape). I see there's another flower-hood for just $2.95 with free shipping (see URL: http://cgi.ebay.com/New-58mm-Lens-Hood-for-Canon-EOS-350D-400D-450D-1000D_W0QQitemZ170340058275QQcategoryZ78999QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp4340.m8QQ_trkparmsZalgo%3DMW%26its%3DC%26itu%3DUCC%26otn%3D5%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D8055782795362143749#ht_2780wt_934 ), so you can save another $5 there! If you do a lot of action shots or sports, a rubber-front (some are also collapsable) might cushion some hard knocks.
The main reason for a lens hood is to reduce lens-flare (occurs mostly from shooting outdoors in bright sun or with street lights at night). The shape is to cut off any light just outside of the image area, and since the image format is wider than tall, the odd-looking shape of flower/crown hoods accommodates this aspect ratio. Film & pro-video shoots often employ an extra "matte box" with flaps known as "French flags" or "barndoors" mounted above the lens to shade studio lights from the front lens element. (See the Wikipedia articles on lens hoods, etc. at URL: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lens_hood
My best suggestion is to stop by a local camera store with your GL2, and see if you can try out different hood shapes to test the cutoff range at your widest zoom setting. Then let your pocketbook/wallet be your guide.
hope this helps,
--Dennis C.
