how do i know what lenes will fit this DSLR? (and some other q's)?
i've been thinking of getting a DSLR Sony A390
how do i know what lenses will fit the camera, would i have to stick with Sony lenses or could i find other compatable lenses? and how would i know if they would fit?
how do i know with filters to get, what should i look for if i have a 18-55mm lens (which comes with the camera)?
would you reccomend anything to get with it, like screen protectors, cleaning equipment, or what kind of case to get for it?
All Sony made SLR lenses, all Minolta/Konica-Minolta Dynax/Maxxum/Alpha lenses, Carl Zeiss lenses designated ZA, Tamron, Tokina, and sigma lenses for Sony alpha mount all should fit and give full functionality.
In terms of which are good, the Minolta designed lenses (some are not labelled as Sony) are the better than the Sony designed lenses. The Carl Zeiss lenses are the best money can get for a Sony SLR, but they are also the most expensive. Sigma, Tamron and Tokina make generic lens designs and may not bring the same level of performance as a Sony/Minolta lens.
A useful filter is a middle of the range Hoya HMC UV (0) filter which is useful when outdoors. The other one that is really versatile is a circular polariser.
Sensor swabs and eclipse solution are both things that you should consider buying when you have a buildup of dust on the sensor, before then you don't need to worry about spending money on that.
Personally I tend to use my cameras quite hard, I hate lens caps (hoods are more convenient), and cases slow you down because of the extra faff. A screen protector is handy, but just get a generic mobile screen protector and cut to size.
People have already mentioned spare cards, and batteries and I'm happy to agree. I'd also add card reader to that list.
Another device that's really cheap is a reflector, they're less than £10 and can get you out of some sticky situations. Also it's a much cheaper alternative to controlling light (compared to off camera flash).
