Canon dSLR Lens Question?
I am making the switch to a dSLR from point and shoot and I'm getting ready to buy the new EOS T1i . I want to get a decent set of Canon lens fairly quickly but can't afford to buy 2 initially with the camera.
I'm trying to decide between: 1) Getting the camera with the stock 18-55mm lens included and buying an IS lens to go with it. Downside is fairly soon I will replace the 18-55 with better lenses, or 2) Buying the body only and one pretty good lens now that can kind of do it all and then get another good one soon after.
Lens I am targeting initially:
EF-S 28-135IS
EF 70-300IS
Eventually I'd get a 3rd lens for below the 28mm. My shooting goals are everything from landscapes, wildlife (macro and tele), and kids sports events.
Any thoughts? I'm leaning towards camera with no included lens, buy the 28-135IS, then get the 70-300 next. However maybe the stock 18-55 (no IS) plus the 70-300 gives me more flexibility?
I would get the 18-55mm IS lens. It is a pretty good lens. The non IS version is kind of a dog. The IS version is much better and will cover 75-80% of the subjects you shoot. I would then get one of these three lenses depending on your budget and your needs.
EFs-55-250mm IS. This is a good consumer level lens. It is inexpensive and is very popular. Cost is about $250
EF 70-300mm IS $575. This is a nice long telephoto zoom. It is a very good lens and his highly recommended for a consumer level lens.
EF 70-200mm F4L $600. This is a premium lens. It is not as long as the others but is much sharper and has a constant F4 aperture. Which means that the maximum aperture is the same at 70mm as it is at 200mm. All the other lenses change the aperture as you zoom.
