Light Stand Mount

The pilot light on our wall mounted propane heater is flickering and too high.?
We have a wall mounted propane heater. It's been flickering like there is air in the lines and it won't "come down" onto the thermacouple. So, therefore we cannot get the panels to light. My husband worked with it for several hours last week and it worked until today. We've been trying to get the panels to light all day. The pilot light is like standing straight up and up highter than usual and not coming over to the thermacouple. We've been holding down the pilot button to try and gt air out of the lines. What next?
The gas valve should have a " pilot gas" adjustment screw. However, it may be concealed with a cap. Look for the letters: "Pilot - Adj embossed on the gas valve body. if possible, look into the recessed well (with a flash-light) to determine whether you'll need a philips or flat head screw driver to turn the adjustment screw! Then with the pilot flame burning, turn the screw in or out until the flame becomes in contact with the thermocouple or pilot generator. Also be sure that the thermocouple or pilot generator is positioned correctly to be in direct contact with the pilot flame.
Another possibility could be that the pilot gas orifice has an obstruction inside it, which then the pilot flame may be burning with a "white-tip" and in some cases, can cause the pilot flame to "stand taller"! If that is the case, the pilot assembly will need to be disassembled and cleaned.
One side note: after the pilot orifice is clean and the pilot flame is restored, the color of the flame should be a brilliant light blue.
hope that helps
