Trying to take real up close pictures of rings, Mega-Pixel or Lens Issue?
I have a Kodak EasyShare DX7630 6.2 MP DigCam. I'm trying to take some really up close pictures of rings, really detailed rings. I bought this camera with the understanding that it would be more than suitable for the job. Turns out, it's not cutting the cheese.
Do I need a higher mega-pixel camera, or a special lens that will make full use of the Macro Lens Setting?
I've tried all the tricks of lighting and backgrounds/foregrounds, and all of the settings on the camera. I even tried the settings that didn't seem applicable, lol.
I'm really needing to take these pictures. It's for my job.
Please let me know if there's some kind of hardware solution I can use to fix this.
Thanks!
The sensors in point and shoot variety camera, such as the EasyShare, are very small and don't do well when enlarged to show detail in a shot. The larger sensors in DSLRs are better suited, full-frame sensors even better and medium format even better. Of course, there is a cost associated with each level. Since DSLRs have interchangeable lenses they are able to accommodate a lens or extension tube to suit your needs, but at a cost as well. If your company is willing to set aside a budget to purchase a camera properly equipped for the job (or you're willing to make the investment), then either update or post a new question and I'm sure you'll get some good answers.
You could use something like a Nikon D3000 ($549 w/18-55 lens) and a PK-12 ($85) or PK-13 ($95) adapter, just to give you an idea.
