My New Whirlpool Duet Washer - Knob shaft broke bringing it in?
I got a great deal on a "clearance -used" seems new, Whirpool Duet Front load washer. So I brought it home myself, with a friend put it on dolly, ITS SOO HEAVY (2x to 3x as much as old toploader), we hard time getting it up the porch stairs, something fell off, front plastic window got scratched a little (can probably polish with auto polishing compound), and then I notice, THE KNOB AND ITS SHAFT BROKE! coming through the door (maybe we had it sitting wrong way on dolly).
It might be covered under warranty except I did this, I might be able to find a used washer switch mechanism. I might get a free one or buy one from whirlpool or sears, or I might be able to insert a tap screw or melt a metal shaft down through the middle.....Any ideas....
and, how do I get the front panel off to get to the inside of the knob and switch? Its the duet front loader HT
The knob shaft is part of the control panel (translation - expensive). Best be is to call for service. Don't be a jerk to the technician and he may give you a break. Just say you don't know how it happened. It may have already been cracked.
I can tell you from experience, when I walk in and the customer is acting like a jerk, I'm not particularly inclined to give him a break. On the other hand, if the customer is friendly, I'm likely to give him the benefit of the doubt.
