Early 90's Sigma Lens on a Modern DSLR?
My dad showed me his old Sigma 25-300mm F 4.5~5.6 APO AF lens from his wet film SLR camera and I was wondering if this bad boy could go on a modern DSLR. It's a rather nice lens and he wouldn't want to upgrade if this wasn't compatible because he wants to save money. I'm not quite sure what year it's from, but I found a repair invoice from 1992 in there with it so that should ballpark the year. Last, in the box it said it was compatible with Minolta, Nikon, and Canon mounts back then, so if they haven't changed their mounts I think I'll be in good standing. Thanks.

From that day and age, the lens could be either manual bayonet or electronic contact with AF.
If it is manual, the only body type it may function correctly with is Nikon, assuming the lens has a Nikon F mount. If it is manual Canon or Minolta, it will be for old manual film bodies only and not usable on DSLR's.
If it is an AF lens, again your best bet is if it is a Nikon mount. Old Sigma's don't get along with Canon, and I know the old Sigma lenses for Minolta A mount don't get along with the new Sony stuff. It may work fine on a Minolta Maxxum film body, but not a the digital stuff. I have a very nice Sigma 35-135 UC III that works very well on my Maxxum 7000, but my Sony A-300 won't even recognize that it is mounted.
You have to find out what mount the lens has, and work from there. I wouldn't put too much effort into this, as almost anything you can get now will be guaranteed to work, and be a better lens to begin with.
