Nikon SP rangefinder and lens question?
I have two options for a camera purchase I'm going to make. I should say that I do plan on shooting with this camera, but it will also be part of my small collection. The first choice is an earlier SP, serial no. 6200526 with the standard 5 cm f/1.4 lens. This is the faster lens of the two, but I've heard it results in soft shots when opened up. This one is priced at $1,660 shipped from Germany. (Does anyone know what kind of duties this would incur?) The second option is a later production SP, serial no. 6209834. It's not late enough for titanium shutters, or I would've jumped for that one. The lens I would get for that camera would be the contemporary Nikon 5 cm f/2. The second option would cost me roughly $1,400. The trouble is, I can't find much info about this lens. Is it made to the same standard? I know the f/1.4 has 12 aperture blades, does the f/2 feature this as well? which would be the better choice for both shooting and collecting?
I would get the one without shipping duties ... and nothing says you have to use the lens that comes with the camera.
both lenses are made to the same standard and have the same aperture blades.
that said, the f2.0 lens is rarer ... it has 6 elements instead of 7 of the f1.4 ... it can be used with a nikon close focusing device (like the eyes of the leitz dual-range summicron) ... it is more compact than the f1.4 ... it has less aberration and vignetting than the 1.4 ... and it is sharper wide open... but then again it was the 5cm/f1.4 which gave nikon its good reputation during the korean war.
for shooting however I would suggest getting some of the modern voigtlander lenses for nikon/contax rangefinder.
