Is it cheaper to scrap a 2001 Saab 95 6v w/ 126k miles to sell for parts or to sell in the paper/dealer ?
The alternator has konked out and before it was a battery, a coolant pump and a few minor other things. I'm tired of buying parts for repair. I owe about three thousand left on the car and I am pretty sure a dealer wouldn't give me much for trade in. I'd like to break even or come darn close.
We can go down to 1 car in the very near future as an impending deployment is coming.

You may be tired of fixing but think like a bean counter/accountant. An alternator is not that expensive. Old cars are not worth much as a trade in. Selling a car that needs an alternator really hurts the resale value; better to fix it first. Private party sales yield better results because you don't have the dealer's overhead and can still sell it for less than a dealer but more than trade in value. Good luck.
As far as parts, if you are handy, you could get the most from selling parts on ebay. However, it takes a whole lot of work to dismantle the car and you will have a wreck in your yard for at least a year. Someone may want a door then another will want something else. You also have to cover the car or animals will start living inside.
