Insurance. Do I have to accept Non OEM replacement parts?
My wife was hit by another driver who was cited for the accident. There insurance wants to use re manufactured and after market parts for the repair where as I want only original equipment replacement. The vehicle in question is only 3 years old and has less than 35K miles on it. I live in Florida. Can I demand genuine replacement parts or can they drag there feet forever on this? What options or leverage do I have on this?
The other persons insurance is footing the bill on the repair....
If the car is less than one year old, the insurer might pay for original replacement parts. However, in most cases, they pay only for re-manufactured parts. If you want original parts, you can talk to them and they will let you get original parts, but you have to pay the extra cost. This is pretty standard in the insurance industry now days. If the car were less than a year old, I would fight with them for original parts. You could still fight with them about it, but you probably wouldn't get any where. Take re-manufactured or pay the difference yourself. You are most likely to get nothing but a headache if you try to fight with them over a 3 year old car.
