Best Settings for Sony Xplod Amplifier?
I just got a 1300w sony xplod monoblock subwoofer amplifier class D. I want to know what i can set my settings on for the best sound and the loudest deepest bass. Heres the settings for it.
1. LEVEL knob- 6V, 5V, 2V, 1V, 0.5V, 0.3V
2. and below the knob theres a switch that has- off, 12dB, 24dB
3. SUBSONIC FILTER knob- 6HZ, 20HZ, 70HZ
4. LOW BOOST knob- 0, 40HZ, 10dB
5. and below the knob theres a switch that has- 12dB, 24dB
6. LOW PASS FILTER knob- 50HZ, 70HZ, 100HZ, 300HZ
If you can answer those numbers for what i explained at the top that would just be great!
Thank you!
This amp is getting hooked up to one 15" kicker cvr. If that makes any difference.
1 is the gain setting, this is to match the rca's music signals voltage coming from you cd player going into your sony amp.
the idea is to have a stronger signal (music signal voltage) higher from the source (head unit) and lower at the next component, (signal processor, crossover or amp) this keeps the signal to noise and distortion low.
so check the specks on the deck, if the line level output of the deck is 6v. you want to set the gain at 6v. or 5v.
if the decks specs says 1v. you want 1v. or or 0.5.
#2 not sure
#3 subsonic filter is to reduce frequencies below what bass tones you do not need or cant hear but can be played by you amp sucking power for no reason.
humans hear sound at around 20 hz. to 20khz. less then 20hz. only whales can hear and dogs can hear above 20khz and humans can not. (dog whistle)
20 hz. is inaudible, but some subs system can play that low.
so a 20hz. signal can shake a car but makes really no sound and uses a lot of power and reduces the subs power handling, most sealed boxes can play down to 20 hz. while most ported boxes are not built to play below 30hz. and below 30 hz performance suffers.
so this filter should be set at 20hz. 6 hz. is too low since most music does not have a signal below even 30hz and 70hz. is well above the 50 or 60hz. where most of bass power is concentrated.
#4 is a bass boost, it boosts the bass signal at around 40hz and will make the car shake, so it adds 10dbs to the original music signal in the lower bass.
#5 again do not know.
#6 low pass filter, this is the crossover, your sub is designed to play bass so this filters out higher frequencies that your front speakers are designed to play.
your front speakers should play from 100 hz.to 20khz high pass, so this should be set at 100hz. low pass.
like a piano it goes from the lowest notes to the highest notes, the lowest keys you can barely hear and same with the highest so the adjustment on this amp are used to tune your system just like tuning a piano so all the frequencies play at around the same volume so there is little overlap or gaps in the music.
remember mid bass and even mid range tones have a huge influence on how you bass sounds, having quality front speakers with good amp power improves your systems sound, to me a balanced system is way more impressive then big bass, but a balanced system can have big bass, rap and bass cd's can have bass levels up to 6 decibels higher then the average recording levels, so a balanced system will still have big bass.
google system tuning, gain settings, crossover settings,
12v.com is a wealth of info
a system with a good power supply, good components and tuned properly can make most music sound good.
