Is it possible for scratches on trumpets be repaired or covered up if you bring it to pro shops?
I have a Bach Stradivarius model 37 silver plated and i got this about four months ago. Very nice trumpet. The person at the shop told me to use wipes that are used for glasses. I used it and it put many tiny and some big scratches on the bell. I accidentally wiped it in some different directions and it really looks ugly. I want it fixed and get all scratches removed and make the trumpet look new again. Can the pro shops do any replating and make it look new again? Can Bach (the company) do anything better than the pro shops? HELP!!
You shouldn't be concern about the aesthetics of the instrument. First of all, what scratches are you talking about? Are they actually visible to the naked eye or is it visible when light is reflected upon it? Wiping the instrument in different directs shouldn't have affected it. Perhaps it was the streaks left by the wipe. Have you tried wiping it with a damp cloth?
I've never heard of someone using wipes for glasses to polish a trumpet. I would've just gotton a silver polish cloth from the music store or use the cloth that was provided in the trumpet case. You generally don't need to use the wipes unless the instrument is tarnished. Any other time, you could just wipe with a damp cloth.
Having it repaired is not necessary and again I say that you shouldn't be so concern about how it looks. If you want it repaired, take it to a pro shop and they'll have it polished. Re-plating takes time and much money. The instrument will need to be "stripped", re-polished then re-plated. Aside from the re-plating itself, some minor work might need to be done after it. Re-platng an entire trumpet can cost $400-$500.
No, Bach cannot do anything better then the pro shops. They make instrument but not necessarily repair them.
