Polarized Light Physics Question. Please Help!?
Unpolarized light with intensity I* is incident on an ideal polarizing filter. The emerging light strikes a second ideal polarizing filter whose axis is at 43.0 to that of the first.
a) Determine the intensity of the beam after it has passed through the second polarizer in terms of I*.
b) Determine its state of polarization...... I know it's linearly polarized, but is it along the axis of the first filter, second filter, or perpendicular to the first or second filter.

let's say the first filter polarizes vertically
an ideal filter would only let 1/2 of the unpolarized light through
then
the second filter would only let ( I cos43 ) through
so
Io * 1/2 * cos43 = 0.366 Io
and
it would still be vertically polarized (same as the first filter) because the second filter does not rotate the light, it just blocks some of it
