Professional Shotgun Gun
Browning A5 light 12 gauge ejects spent shell but will not feed from the magazine?

Gun was manufactured in 1967 and it fires a chambered round then ejects but fails to bring one up from the mag. Does anybody have any experience with this type of shotgun? Is there a competent gunsmith in California who can work on this gun properly? Maybe its the carrier spring? Maybe it needs to be cleaned by a professional?
I've read the factory manual and field service manual multiple times. I'm way above the average gun owner just not a gunsmith...Yet....

I have two of them. The odds are it just needs a good cleaning and oiling. Place the butt of the gun on a carpeted floor. Push down on the barrel to relieve pressure. Unscrew the large nut holding the forearm in place. Remove forearm. Ease up on the gun barrel. You will see the friction rings the spring and the magazine tube.Look everything over very carefully so you can re-install it exactly as you removed it. This is usually what needs cleaning and oiling.Remove the friction rings and spring. WD 40 will serve as a good cleaner.Clean off the spring, the tube and the friction rings. Then lubricate with the gun oil of your choice such as Rem Oil. You can also wipe off any crud that has accumulated and re spray with WD 40 as your lubricant also.I have never had a problem with using the WD 49 other then the fact it does not last long as a lubricant.

Replace everything in the reverse order that you removed it. If it was a cleaning problem this will take care of it. If it still doesn't work it has to be something broken in the system or the friction rings were reversed by someone and it will not handle low brass shells. You may wish to shoot a high brass shell and see it works. The gun was not designed to shoot both high brass and low brass shells without a friction ring adjustment.

One other thing that you may need to know. There is a magazine cut-off located on the left side of the receiver. If the cut off is in place ( facing the stock of the gun) it will not allow a shell to be chambered after it is shot. If you are not familar with the gun, this could well be causing the problem you are having. Check it out. It will look like a small lever. Just put the lever pointing toward the forearm and that will allow the shells to chamber.
