Protection Lens Filter

Does anyone find a Skylight 1B Filter particulary useful in digital photography?
I am interested in specific applications one might use this filter for (besides "lens protection") and what brand you use. How about the issue of a 3 stop Neutral Density? Any thoughts on a particular brand and whether 2 stops or 3 stops is better? Thanks!!
UV is for basic protection
Skylight 1B is not for basic protection. Normally this filter will have pinkish color. This will reduce the uv and also reduce the bluish of the sky in outdoor photography.
Brand I normally use will be Nikon. But Hoya also a great brand.
For ND how many stops really depend on what are you going to use it for. If it's for very bright sky you might want to use gradient ND as it will not effect the color of the ground.
When photographing waterfall (most water actually) I would choose 4stops. This will allow me to use slower shutter speed which will produce photo that show the water flowing.
In digital photography. Most people will think they can do anything with post processing. Well they do but how much time will it take to do the same effect as using filter (putting filter about 5s and don't need fast computer which cost thousands). And even now the programs can do many thing it still can't beat the effect of filter (as digital camera still can't reach the same contrast and color as film)
Hope this helps find me if you have any other questions
