What should I get next for my SLR Sony Camera?
Yes, I have a230.
I already have a 18-55 zoom. And a filter that protects the lens for the sun's rays.
I'm not looking for extra things at the moment, just things I need to help me get better photos, besides a better zoom.
Or should I just save up for a closer/further range?

There is no such thing as a filter that protects your lens from the sun's rays. If you are talking about a a UV filter, they were designed to protect film from UV rays. UV rays do not affect digital cameras as the image sensor already has a UV filter over it.
It is up to you if your want a wider lens or a longer lens. If you find that your 18-55 zoom lens is not wide enough, get a wider lens. If your 18-55 does not zoom far enough for you, get a telephoto lens.
