Regulator Adapter Step

Do the power adapters used at home, have voltage regulator in them ?
I have a commonly used small power adapter that steps-down "220V AC" to "1.5 - 12V DC".
So, if there is "High or Low Voltage" in the (AC) supply side...... will the output dc voltage remain constant ?? or it will vary accordingly ??
I'm afraid... if it varies it may damage sensitive components.
What can I do to get a "Constant" voltage ??
Even the cheapest ones have a simple form of voltage regulator, which is usually a cheap and simple microchip easily incorporated into a circuit.
The performance varies with the quality of adapter you pay for.
Decent quality laptop power supplies have good ones built in, with the output varying by less than 0.2% for a change of 10% in input voltage.
The type you mention with selectable outputs will withstand a 10% change in voltage giving round 1-2% change in output for the low-cost variety commonly bought as multi-purpose supplies for tape recorders, radios, MP3s etc and around 5% change in output for 20% change in input.
Most however will not deal with massive spikes in the input voltage but mains supplies are cleaner now than they were a few years ago.
A surge protector socket will deal with those.
To get 'constant voltage' buy a power described as a regulated supply. You can then expect the output to vary very little with changing input voltage, around 0.1% to 0.3% for mid-price power supplies up to less than 0.01% for top level bench power supplies.....they cost a lot of money.
