What is the best way to clean the sensor on a Nikon D40 DSLR Camera?
Hi,
My Nikon D40 has a speck of dust on the mirror and I cant remove it.. I have tried an Air Rocket blower .. This has failed to remove the spec of dust... (I tried this in "Mirror up" mode as well)
Thank you for your answers...Have a great evening.
It is producing a black spot on the photos...
The newer Nikon DSLR cameras have a self cleaning sensor.
I have other camers so I am not beat.. It is just nice to be able to use my D40 as it produces 5 STAR pictures, That will shame far more expensive cameras.
Any spot seen in the final picture is caused by dust on the sensor, not on the mirror.
Put the D40 into M (manual) mode. Turn the command dial until the shutter speed reads B (bulb).
With the lens off, and in a clean indoor environment, press & hold the shutter button. The mirror should flip up and stay up until you release the button (maximum time, 30 seconds).
Use your Air Rocket and blow away the dust particles on the now exposed sensor. What ever you do, DON'T TOUCH the sensor.
Remount the lens and take a test picture of a plain surface. Check the review image to see it the dust spots are gone. If not, repeat the process.
I've done this procedure a few times with my Nikon DSLR's and it's worked perfectly every time.
