Rubber Lens Hood

This question is posted for photographers. Which is more useful, a flower lens hood or a rubber lens hood?
I agree that it is an opinion question. Here is my take on it:
Rubber hoods are good in that they collapse, but they also can fall off, flower hoods fall off too, but they usually click on and therefore you are more aware of it.
Flower hoods are shaped that way so that corners are not cut off in the image, this allows them to have a greater reach, rubber hoods are always round, this limits the reach, also they are a generic item, so it's hard to tell just looking at the package if it will cut out or not.
Both styles have the added advantage of protecting the glass from knocks, but there is more to that story, if you are using a circular polarizer, it's easier to fold back the rubber one for proper alignment of the polarization. This is tedious work with a flower. Like I said both protect, but the rubber has the advantage in usability.
To me it comes down to what is needed, I certainly enjoy a flower for it's increased reach, but the rubber is better for multiple situations, but alas, the increased reach is very good at blocking lens flare.
I have to give the flower with reach the edge, it does something the rubber never can.
