Nikon D200 settings, help?
I've recently bought a Nikon D200, i know how to set it to basic settings but obviously it's a much harder camera to use than what my last camera was (Sony Alpha 200). So basically I want to have a go at wildlife photography and i've just set my camera to 'S' mode to set the shutter speed, i put up the ISO to around 1600 or something and put my image quality to RAW. I then started shooting but all my images came out dark, even though there was enough light as I was outside and the LCD screen didn't say that it was too dark because the 'Lo' vanished. I want to learn how to use this mode correctly and get great images, even when using flash they came up dark..
Can anyone give me step by step advice on how I can set up my camera to photograph fast moving objects..?
Thankyou in advance.
Sounds more like it's the metering or the exposure compensation thats playing up. Flash is useless as you don't have the range. Using S mode with a high ISO is the right direction to go, so it's just the metering thats playing up.
Make sure you have metering set to 3-D matrix metering and the exposure compensation set to 0EV.
At ISO 1600 on a cloudy day in an open environment, setting an shutter speed of 1/2000 should give you an aperture of around f/5.0. Use the sunny 16 rule to make sure the exposure values that the camera spits out makes sense.
If youre shooting in a wooded area where you don't get enough light through you'll want to push the exp comp to +1.3EV.
