Shotgun Microphone Panasonic

Does anybody know how to record sound with a video camera that doesn't have a microphone in jack?
The video camera that I own is a Panasonic GS59 and it doesn't have a mic-in jack installed in it. I plan on going to school for cinematography and was wondering if there was a way to record sound (say, with a shotgun mic) if you have the type of camera that I have.

Well, assuming you are not going to be satisfied with the on-board mic, there is no easy way to connect a microphone. I wouldn't put it past a real tinkerer to be able to wire something in, but even then, quality would still be an issue.
So if you want decent audio, you will need an external recording device. You can spend a little, or you can spend a whole lot. The good news is that you can attach whatever kind of mic you want to a device like this.
Here's something decent, for not much money. It requires an ipod, but it looks pretty cool:

You can even plug XLR's into that sucker! You could connect a shotgon mic to that, even put it on a boom, if you like. Just make sure to use some kind of synchronizing sound (clap board, hand clap, etc...) to give yourself a synch point.
